Gilbert M. Gaul got his start writing fiction, poetry and stories for Margaret (Poochy) Buchholz at The Beachcomber in the early 1970s. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes and has been short-listed for the prestigious award four other times. After retiring from The Washington Post, he began writing books.
He is the author of four books, including BILLION-DOLLAR-BALL: A Journey Through the Big-Money Culture of College Football, which was selected as one of the top sports books of 2015, and upcoming The Geography of Risk: Epic Storms, Rising Seas and the Cost of America’s Coasts, to be published Sept 3rd, 2019 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
Gil and moderator, Art Carey, will discuss the development of Long Beach Island and other coastal communities; the growing risks posed by Sea Level Rise, hurricanes and nor’easters; the rising toll of storm damage and flooding, and the nature of personal and public risk at the coast.
