FEBRUARY 8: SAILING TO ANTARCTICA ON A HISTORIC TALL SHIP

Speaker: Mike Kramer, Geology MBA – Columbia University & Volunteer Lecturer for NYC Downtown Public Middle Schools

We set sail into Antarctica through this documentary & presentation on the Bark Europa, a 180-foot steel-hull tall ship built in 1911. Mike Kramer will guide us through his three week journey in some of the roughest ocean in the world. Through tight passages and protected waters, we’ll learn about wildlife, international research stations, historic whaling stations, and the impact of man-made climate change on Antarctica.

WHAT ARE SCIENCE SATURDAYS?

Science Saturdays at the LBIF tackles today’s most pressing scientific, environmental, and sustainability issues that directly affect our shore community and the Barnegat Bay. Science Saturdays are interactive and informative hands-on presentations in an informal atmosphere.
