Relief Printmaking

Introduction to Relief Printmaking will teach both traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques that were inspired by the historic relief methods of woodcut. This class will explore the histories and conceptual hallmarks of this media. Julie will highlight the socially active component of printmaking and emphasize printmaking skills as an expressive means to explore independent visual intent, subjects, and imagery. Students will draw on historical and contemporary examples of printmaking with an emphasis on contemporary and experimental ways of working with print media. This workshop will include inspirational images, take-home readings and is primarily a hands-on studio experience that will teach drawing, carving, printing and editioning from the woodcut.
