Creating copies of masterworks as a learning experience is a time-honored tradition in the art world. With riffing on a masterwork, another strong tradition, artists transform the way we see or understand the work by using different mediums, altering compositions, or interpreting a work from a satiric or humorous point of view. This exhibit invites entries in both categories: Master Copies and Imaginative Interpretations. All 2-D except photography are welcome. Copies must be in the medium of the original artwork. Interpretations must be of a drawing, painting, print or mixed media. Awards will be made in both categories by the juror.
Juror: Kathleen Foster, Senior Curator of American Art and Director of the Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
