Introducing Mary Corse at the Whitney with Kim Conaty

JUNE 17, 5:00 – 6:00pm //ABOUT THE LECTURE:

Since the mid-1960s, Mary Corse has pushed the bounds of painting through her pioneering investigations into light and perception. In this lecture, Conaty will discuss Corse’s survey at the Whitney the artist’s first solo museum exhibition and the process of working with the artist to plan a presentation that features key works from across five decades and highlights both the material innovation and ethereal magic in Corse’s art.

Kim Conaty is the Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings and Prints at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she is currently organizing the first solo museum exhibition on Mary Corse (opening June 2018), in addition to overseeing the management and growth of the Whitney’s collection of drawings and prints. She holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, an M.A. from Williams College, and B.A. from Middlebury College, and she is the recipient of a Clark Fellowship in 2014 and a Fulbright Fellowship in Germany in 2003.


Works on Paper is our 20th annual National Juried Competition and  Exhibition. Works on Paper will feature more than sixty artworks from national artists. Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital prints and paper constructions display the variety of mediums explored in this exhibition. The Juror is Kim Conaty, the Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings & Prints at The Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC. Three cash prizes and three honorable mentions will be awarded by the Juror at the opening reception.
