GET YOUR HANDS IN CLAY AT LBIF
Are you new to the medium of ceramics or are you a veteran potter? Look to the LBIF for all of your creative clay needs! The Ceramics Studio at LBIF is one of the most state-of-the-art studios in the area – plus one of the liveliest departments in our facility. We boast some of the most attractive firing techniques in all of southern New Jersey with our various kilns types: Electric including “Big Blue” (for larger-scale pieces), Gas, Raku, and our newest kiln – the Soda/Wood Kiln.
LBIF offers a wide range of ceramics classes and workshops for all skill levels including the very beginner to the most advanced. Twice a year the LBIF hosts week-long workshops with renown artists for our Visiting Artist Series.
The Residency Program
The LBIF’s Ceramic Residency Program allows potters the opportunity to work in a communal studio space. Residents are assigned a dedicated wheel or handbuilding space, as well as storage space in the studio spanning the summer or winter months.
Enjoy the Studio On Your Own Time
Are you already comfortable with being on a potter’s wheel or handbuilding 3D sculptures? The studio is open to the public! Guests pay a flat day fee and get right to creating pieces of art. How it works: simply call the ceramics studio in advance to check studio availability and schedule your time. Note: open studio is unavailable during class or workshop times. Once arrangements are confirmed, simply bring a small water bucket and hand towel, purchase your clay (the cost of clay includes your glazing & firing fee), and enjoy!
Open studio day rentals are available during office operation hours ONLY. Please see our Hours & Directions
Why not make a birthday or anniversary even more special with a private session in the ceramics studio? Handbuilding projects or smaller groups on the wheel can be scheduled in advance with LBIF, or improve your pottery skills with a one-on-one private lesson focusing on specific areas. Contact our ceramics studio for more information.
