The Tree of Life with Jane Zamost

  • The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts + Sciences (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join Jane Zamost in this mixed media collage workshop as you create the tree of life that speaks to you - its colors, branches, production of sprouts and/or leaves. Inspired by the start of the Spring Season, the change we feel in the air, and the inner peace felt when walking amongst the trees, you will express the comfort found in the roots grounding you to the earth and grasp joy when reaching new heights.

What better way to begin Spring than with your creation of “the tree of life?” This workshop will ask you what tree you connect with. The willow arching above? The overflowing maple? The magnolia budding its vivid blooms or the elm rising high above? Bring pictures from magazines, your own photos, the colors you associate with your tree – paints, crayons and colored pencils- any medium that speaks to you! We will explore it all in this workshop and gain connection as we embrace this season together.

Learn how to capture waves crashing and the soft sand of our beautiful Jersey Shores! This class will focus on the movement and colors we see from our amazing beaches of Long Beach Island. We’ll discuss the basics of pastel painting as well as exploring techniques and underpainting. All levels welcome!

Renee Leopardi’s Bio:
From early childhood, Renee has always been interested in art and found ways to create during her free time. In 2008, she took an Advanced Painting workshop at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia.  From then on, she knew her focus had to change. She has continued to further her art education through workshops and independent study including Life Drawing and plein air painting sessions with fellow artists. Her newest works are primarily pastel paintings. Through her studies, she realized that painting with pastels has pushed her to explore and create more than she thought she could. Working with pastels can be quick and expressive in a way she wasn’t finding with other mediums and has given her painting style a turn toward impressionism. She finds inspiration in the people and local seasonal landscapes of southern New Jersey; from the ocean and marshes to creeks and woods to farmland.
