SUMMER CAMP 2024
At LBIF Summer Camp, we take pride in the quality experience we provide for our campers every day of the summer. We are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our campers and their families. Our staff embraces and embodies a unique culture and vision that allows them to find the greatness in each of our campers. Each member of the LBIF camp staff team understands the importance of his/her role to inspire, teach, and practice meaningful life skills and values with our campers that they will carry with them beyond this incredible summer experience.

2024 Morning & Afternoon Summer Camp starts June 24th and runs through August 23rd. Campers must be the minimum age to attend by the date of their registered camp and are required to submit an Emergency Contact form along with Immunization Records. Member discounts apply and camp fills up quickly, so register online in advance (and save money!). Not only will kids get to engage in making projects all week, but they’ll also experience set up for a weekly art exhibit. Don’t miss out on this summer’s chance to experience LBIF Summer Camp!

Art Camp and Science Camp

June 24 through August 23.
Each week of camp has a theme where students will engage in artmaking activities, creative play, socializing, visits to our gallery and nature walks on our 22 acres of property. You can register for a specific week of camp or multiple weeks ensuring a unique, enriching art experience each time.
Every Friday, campers assist in curating an Exhibition featuring their work from the week. Exhibitions typically open at 11:40 on Fridays.
2024 CAMP THEMES
Week 1: Funny Pages
“Funny Pages”, where the joy of laughter becomes the muse for artistic endeavors. Whether it's capturing comical expressions on canvas, crafting humorous sculptures, or experimenting with funny narratives, every artwork will be a celebration of joy and amusement. Comic Artist Greg Lear will be working with our students on visual storytelling during this fun filled week!

Week 2: The Science of Color
Curious about how colors work and interact? Discover the secrets behind the palette. Through hands-on experiments and projects, campers will discover the chemistry of color theory, color psychology and symbolism. They will learn how to mix colors and create artworks that blend both artistic expression and scientific exploration.
Week 3: Nature’s Palette
Explore the beauty of the natural environment through the lens of environmental art and illustration inspired by landscape, flora, and fauna here at the Foundation.
Week 4: Collaborate!
Immerse yourself the spirit of teamwork and creativity. Working alone and in groups, campers will learn how to co-create projects, such as murals, sculptures, installations, and perhaps a performance!

Week 5: At the Movies
Movies, music and performing artists set the stage for this week. Campers will create inspired artworks such as posters, costumes, props or fan art creating a gallery that resonates with the magic of the big screen.
Week 6: Contemporary Art
Explore the latest trends and innovations in art. During this week artists will learn how to use different materials, methods, and media to create artworks that reflect your personal style and vision. You will also discover the history, context, and meaning of contemporary art movements, such as pop art, minimalism, conceptual art, and street art. Join us for a week of contemporary art, art, and fun!
Week 7: Sea Change
Through immersive projects and ocean-inspired creations, participants will explore their responsibility as artist to advocate for marine conservation and sustainability.
Week 8: Motion Commotion
Explore movement and dynamics through the lens of an artist. Kinetic art, such as mobiles, wind chimes, flip books, and zoetropes are just some of the topics campers might explore.
Week 9: Glow out!
Create dazzling artworks that shine and sparkle and glow!

An inviting and inspiring environment that offers everything a child needs to enrich time away from home and introduce learning quality life skills through stimulating activities. The morning includes unique art projects, group stories, games, nature walks and time on the playground. Artwork will be displayed on Fridays in the camp art exhibit.

A creative experience involving both individual and group projects that foster independence, confidence, and exploration. CAC is made up of different stations where campers rotate throughout the day, working on a theme-based project that is completed by the end of each week.
Project mediums studied include ceramics, painting, 2D art, and mixed media. A new Visiting Artist will work with campers each week, creating a specialty project based on their own expertise. Artwork will be displayed every Friday in the camp art exhibit

Perfect for the beginning artist as well as the more advanced. Campers in this small group setting can explore their own artistic interests, while experiencing a variety of techniques and mediums surrounding our themes for the week. Our teen arts studio is housed at the LBIF Main Gallery building, allowing for immersion and exposure to our exhibitions. Student artwork will be displayed every Friday in the camp art exhibit.

Come experience the wonders of LBI with our Science Camp! The classroom serves as a home base for this class in nature exploration. Campers will have the opportunity to spend time on the bay, beach, and marsh learning about all of LBI's local flora and fauna, with a different theme and focus each week. Our students have the opportunity to be a part of a one-of-a-kind experience unique to Long Beach Island while learning quality life skills through working independently and in a group.
*Note: Campers spend a good deal of time outdoors in this camp. It is recommended that campers wear sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, and appropriate water shoes and clothing to explore the marsh and bay. Please apply all sunscreen and bug spray before arriving to camp.
Nature Studies is located in the Science Building along with Marine Biology camp. Some activities may combine the two classrooms.

Join us for a fun-filled week of exploration and discovery. This program provides field experience for young scientists to explore the ecology of LBI. Using the bay, beach, and salt marsh as a living classroom, students collect and classify specimens, test water quality, and learn all about the environment around them.
*Note: Campers spend a good deal of time outdoors in this camp. It is recommended that campers wear sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, and appropriate water shoes and clothing to explore the marsh and bay. Please apply all sunscreen and bug spray before arriving to camp.

Join LBI's own, Jaycee Brill, for a special week of learning "What is funny?”. Kid comedians will make new friends and laugh the week away as they work to create their own 3-minute routine and participate in a comedy show at the end of the week.
Campers will also have the opportunity to showcase their routines at our annual Family Night on June 28th at 5:00 PM!

Campers will delight in singing, acting and dancing to choreographed Broadway, Movie and Pop Culture selections. Each week, numbers will be tailored to student’s abilities and interest.
Selections may be from High School Musical, Ken & Barbie Disco, Harry Potter, Toy Story, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Annie, Newsies, Beauty & The Beast, Matilda, Wicked, Frozen…just to name a few.
This one-week program culminates in a public showing of a musical theater revue showcase onstage, on Fridays.
All campers should be prepared to wear dark/black jeans, pants or leggings to Friday's performance, if needed. Registration includes a $10 costuming fee.

Beth and Scott, parents and musicians with 30+ years of working with young children, will invite your child to enjoy the outdoors and use it as inspiration for art, music, dance, and play.
Campers will begin their day taking in the beauty and rhythms of the natural world, with engaging walks to the bay and along the LBIF nature trail. Your child’s musical camp experience will continue with the remainder of the day filled with joyful singing, dancing, and playing percussion.

Join Katilyn Covert, former camper, current staff member and 2x NCA National Champion Cheerleader with over 10 years of experience for a week of cheer, teamwork and movement. This camp will focus on fundamentals, technical elements and dance routines and is suitable for all levels.

Join LBI's own, Daria Raguseo, for a week of self-expression and friendship.
Contemporary dance is an expressive style that combines elements of ballet, modern, and jazz styles, while striving to connect the body and mind through movement. Dancers will be introduced to contemporary techniques through floor work, release and improvisation. Students will learn to be a part of a creative team through choreography and creative play. Dancers are encouraged to explore their own voice, moving with curiosity and confidence.
Parents will be invited to a special performance at the end of the week.

Back by popular demand! Join Jessica Kilpatrick from LoveArts, for an enchanting week exploring creative movement and the beginnings of classical ballet, all in the midst of Wonderland. Let’s try to keep up as the White Rabbit leads us through fields of dancing flowers, an extravagant tea party with the Mad Hatter, an encounter with a tempered queen, and many silly moments with the Cheshire Cat. We’ll fall into Alice’s fantasy world while creating our very own costumes and props, make new friends and bring this everlasting story to life through dance.
Parents will be invited to a special performance at the end of the week.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (NO class Thursdays & Fridays)
Adventures In Clay offers a hands on wheel throwing experience. Artists will learn the stages of clay and the steps of throwing and trimming on the wheel through small group instruction. Underglazing, sgraffito and applique techniques will be taught when the pieces are off the wheel and ready. Once artists are happy with their creations they will put the final touch of clear glaze on, and their pieces will be ready to be fired in the kiln. Come prepared to get muddy as we will be throwing ourselves into our work! Wear closed-toe shoes and old clothes. Enrollment is limited to provide individual attention, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Materials included.
Weekly Lesson Plan:
Monday- demo throwing, artists begin throwing with support
Tuesday- artists continue to throw pieces with continued instruction/support, pieces dry overnight/in the morning
Wednesday- artists learn to trim pieces, as well as underglazing, applique, and sgraffito techniques, pieces are clear glazed if dry enough-if not dry enough instructor will clear glaze Thursday morning pre-firing
Thursday- no class; kiln is being fired

Join fellow campers and make new friends with this great opportunity for exercise, skill-building, and fun! Tennis Camp is open to morning campers that would like to extend their day and develop or advance their tennis technique. Each week, the LBIF Tennis Pros will guide campers through skill-building games and drills with a focus on fun! Campers will be split into small age-appropriate groups based on ability level to allow for group interaction and individualized attention. No experience necessary!

Surf Groms and Wahines will get ocean ready as they learn the basics of surfing with our introductory 2 day camp!No experience necessary! This camp is all about learning safety and the surfing basics in a fun environment with our expert instructors. Students are guaranteed to stand up! Surfboards and wetsuits are included!

Join Conserve Wildlife Foundation scientists to engage in authentic field work, learning about various wildlife fields and impacts of human activities on our environments. Under the guidance of our experts, campers will explore different methods to study at-risk species. From observation techniques to the use of modern technologies, such as GPS tracking, campers will gain firsthand knowledge and hands-on experience in wildlife research. Campers will participate in a range of activities, including monitoring diamondback terrapin nests, enhancing habitat for wildlife species, exploring the marsh ecosystem to identify fauna and flora, and contributing to important pollinator populations. This week will culminate in a special opportunity to explore insects from around the world, providing campers with a fascinating glimpse into the diversity of insect life and their ecological importance.

Spend the week learning about our feathered friends that live, breed, and migrate through Long Beach Island and the surrounding areas of the “Jersey Shore.” Guided by experts from Conserve Wildlife Foundation, children will participate in hands-on experiences authentic to the work of ornithologists. From collecting nesting data of osprey and oystercatchers to the thrill of getting “up close and personal” with raptors during a live wildlife show, campers will gain insights into bird behavior and conservation efforts. On the final day, campers will visit a special nesting site near Barnegat Light. Here, they will spend an afternoon exploring the beach and engaging in activities such as using spotting scopes for a chance to observe endangered species of beach nesting birds in their natural habitat. SUMMER CAMP POLICY
Registration and Payment Options
The LBIF accepts Visa, American Express, Mastercard, Discover, and debit through Amilia, our online registration portal. Full tuition is due at the time of registration. The LBIF may decline an individual’s enrollment or participation at its discretion.
Class Cancellations
The LBIF reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or in the case of an emergency. In the event the LBIF cancels a class, students will be notified and full tuition and fee will be credited or refunded.
Withdrawals + Refunds
Every scenario will be considered in case of illness or emergency. Requests for refunds will be considered on a case by case basis. However, refunds, changes, or substitutions will NOT be given for individual days of absence. Please contact the Camp Coordinator via email M-F in order for your request to be considered. Messages left with staff or on voicemail will not be honored for cancellation or refund requests. No refunds will be offered if the date of the registered camp week has passed.
Refund Policy
A refund can only be provided if the camp week is over 30 days out and ONLY if there is a waitlist. Please contact the Youth Program Manager camp@lbifoundation.org, via email, M-F, if you wish to cancel your camp registration. All cancellations are subject to a $25.00 administrative fee.
Changes
Changes to camp registration will only be considered if there is space available in the desired program. Please keep in mind that the purchase of one camp does not guarantee a spot in another camp. Please contact the Camp Coordinator, via email, M-F, to request a change to your registration. All changes to camp registration are subject to a $25.00 administrative fee.
Waitlists
If a camp is at full capacity, you will be given the option to join the waitlist. There is no cost to be put on the waitlist. The waitlist is first come, first serve. If a spot is made available to you, an automatically generated email will be sent to you. You will have 24 hours from the time the email has been sent to register for the spot. Receiving a spot from the waitlist is NOT guaranteed and should not be treated as such.
Publicity
The LBIF reserves the right to use photos taken during classes and other programs for publicity purposes on the internet, in print, social media, video, or mailings. Registration in a class or participation in any event gives LBIF permission to use images for publicity purposes without further consent or compensation.
Student Property
The LBIF is not responsible for artwork and other property left on the premises and has no liability if such property is lost, stolen, or damaged. Artwork or property left 2 weeks after the conclusion of a class will be discarded.

Hygiene and Cleaning Protocols
Upon arrival students will be asked to wash their hands/use hand sanitizer before joining their group. There will be hand sanitizer available inside and around our camp buildings. Our instructors will be regularly encouraging campers to disinfect their hands (before and after outside play, before and after an activity, etc.).
The camp buildings, as well as the playground, will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of each day. Surfaces will be disinfected each time there is a change in activity or location.
The camp buildings will be ventilated (open windows, doors etc.) before and after each day of camp.
LBIF Camp follows the instructions of the NJDOH Youth Camps Division, CDC, and LBI Health Department. More information about health policies will be published and sent to families prior to camp.
Lunch and Snacks
Campers bring their own snacks everyday.

Note: we are not able to refrigerate or heat lunches. Please label your camper’s lunch bag with their name.
Water: Campers bring their own water bottles. Camp staff will supply filtered water to refill the bottles.
Supplies: All supplies are provided for each camp.
Pick Up and Drop Off
Camp drop-off and pick-up will require signature of parent or listed guardian. Campers will not be released from camp without signature at pick-up. Every camper is required to have a filled out the Emergency Contact Form along with immunization records.

Impressionism
Week 9: a week of art inspired by Claude Monet’s Water Lilies and the Impressionist movement, exploring light, color, and the natural world.
Renaissance
Week 8: a week of art inspired by Renaissance paintings and techniques, including Leonardo Da Vinci’s paintings and Michaelangelo’s sculptures.
Surrealism
Week 7: a week of art inspired by Salvador Dali and Surrealist art, exploring creative ideas and making fun + illogical creations.
Aliens vs. Robots vs. Unicorns
Week 6: a week of art projects inspired by our favorite fictional creatures.
Cubism
Week 5: a week of art inspired by Picasso and Cubism movement, including unique shapes, different dimensions, and abstract figures.
Portraits
Week 4: coinciding with our Unmasked Portraiture exhibition, a week of art exploring different types of self portraits in various art mediums.
Sustainability
Week 3: a week of creative projects using recycled and sustainable materials.
Pop Art
Week 2: a week of art inspired by Andy Warhol and mid century pop art, including bold colors and bright ideas.
Elements
Week 1: coinciding with our Elemental Effects exhibition, a week of art and projects inspired by fire, water, earth, and air.
