Figure Drawing with Brian

  • The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts + Sciences 120 Long Beach Boulevard Loveladies, NJ, 08008 USA (map)

This class will cover the basics of observational figure drawing, focusing on gesture and motion, introductory anatomy, modeling the human form through an understanding of light and shadow, and capturing movement and emotion in 2D artwork.  Students will draw extensively from the nude (and sometimes draped) live female and/or male model.  All serious artists, beginner through advanced, are welcome to participate (students under the age of 18 years must have signed permission forms from their parent/guardian).  Each class session will consist of a variety of poses, from quick gestures, to longer studies. There will be individualized instruction and group critique.  Students can expect a very positive, fun, casual and nurturing class environment.

Brian is an award-winning fine art photographer, artist and educator that has exhibited extensively throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He founded a non profit visual arts and education organization over 25 years ago, which has operated continuously, offering studio art workshops and classes in life drawing, painting, sculpture and artistic photography.

While pursuing advanced degrees in sciences and medicine, Brian augmented his studies in art and photography at numerous institutions, eventually earning an MFA in later life.  He continues to create art, teach, and exhibit; and has drawn from the live model at least twice a week for the past three decades.
