Plein Air Plus "Island Life" Exhibition: September 16th - October 29th, 2023

Long Beach Island has a vibrant artist community and is a vacation destination which draws its audience of collectors, supporters of the arts and artists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, DC and beyond. The LBIF, founded in 1948, is celebrating its 75th year in 2023.  The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce the eighth Plein Air Plus Competition and Exhibition on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.  

We welcome artists to apply to a unique Plein Air Event. Our Paint Out is over a two-month period, allowing artists to visit and paint the scenic, seashore environment of Long Beach Island (LBI) New Jersey on their own schedule, any time between July 1st through August 31st, 2023. Artists can choose the time of day, weather, and varied locations to paint. 

DEADLINE TO APPLY : MAY 17, 2023

AWARDS:
First Prize: $500. to classical “Plein Air” and First Prize: $500. to “Plein Air Plus +”,  
2nd Prize $250. and Third Prize $100. in either category – Classical or Plus. 
Three Honorable Mentions.  

Juror, Kiki Aebi (MoMA), will pick approximately 40 artists to participate in the Paint Out on Long Beach Island during July and August. The accepted artists will exhibit the paintings created in the LBI Paint Out in the "Island Life" exhibition scheduled for September through October.  Prizes will be awarded at the reception. (Artists are not required to attend the reception). 

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists 18 years and older in the continental US.
May 15, 2023 Deadline for submission (online via CAFE) for entry applications:  
Artists must submit 3 images of their previous work painted in the past two years for consideration.  Painting media can include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. 
Accepted artists names will be posted on LBIF site: June 1
FEE:  $35.00 for 3 entries (non-refundable)
 
CALENDAR for 2023: 
The following is a tentative schedule for the selection process and exhibition: 

January – May                       Prospectus distribution, listing and advertising (by LBIF) 

May 17                                   Deadline for submission (online via CAFE) for entry applications 

June 1                               Notification of acceptance emailed to the artists 

July 1 to August 31                 Paint Out on Long Beach Island (Check in at LBIF)
September 1-7                       Artwork due at LBIF; Artist delivery of paintings ready to hang 

Sept 16 – Oct 29                    “Island Life” Exhibition 

September 17                        Awarding of Prizes  (Reception)  

Oct 30- Nov 2                         Artist pick up of unsold work 

Nov 18– Dec 3                        Holiday Market Fest   (Artists can participate in LBIF’s Holiday Sale)
