Shibori Dyed Silk Scarves with Leni Hoch

Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique that uses folding, binding, wrapping, and compression to create patterns on cloth. In this workshop, you will learn how to manipulate fabric with five foundational shibori wrapping and binding methods before the resist-dyeing process – resulting in a layered, dynamic surface design. The fundamentals of color theory and dye color mixing will be discussed as well as techniques for over-dyeing and layering colors. Participants will practice methods on large cotton swatches before dyeing their own silk scarf. All levels welcome, no prior dye experience necessary!
