Losing My Mind
Charcoal
Statement: My practice burgeoned following a neurological event that simultaneously gave me contamination-based OCD and the ability to draw professionally. Through surreal metaphors and meticulous photorealism, I formalize internal states of fear, control, isolation, and resilience to create space for recognition, empathy, and reflection.
Second Prize
Ghislaine and Lando Fremaux-Valdez, Texas
Drape (transfusion)
Pastel and gouache
Statement: Our work investigates how humans develop beliefs about the needs, mechanics, and purposes of our bodies informed by medicine, religion, and love. We think about drawing as surgery conducted with line on paper skin.
Third Prize
Thomas Brummett, Pennsylvania
River #56
Black and white print
Statement: My photography process is an act of meditation through deep and extended attention and has evolved over time into capturing โinfinite systems.โ Photography uniquely and mysteriously achieves duality between line and photographic subject.
