Plein Air on the Shore: Two-Day Plein Air Workshop with Garin Baker

Using golden moments of long light along the Long Beach Island shore, this workshop will focus on staging and completing several Plein Air paintings, offering participants the best opportunity to capture the brilliance of light during the early morning and late afternoon. Instructor and award winning Plein Air painter Garin Baker, will demonstrate and work with participants one-on-one lending his methods and expertise towards this challenging aspect of developing a greater sense of atmosphere, richness of color and light, while bringing a visual truth to one’s work in a Plein Air setting.
BIO
Garin Baker’s artistic repertoire includes complex figure compositions, simple portraits, and numerous Plein Air studies of urban and rural scenes. Baker’s work is a contemporary exploration of storytelling, where each brushstroke seeks to capture the nuances of everyday life and the essence of his subjects, delving into deeper explorations of humanity and truth. Baker graduated from Pratt Institute in the early 1980s. He is a member of the faculty teaching life painting and drawing at the Art Students League in NYC. As a professional muralist, he has completed many iconic public art works across the United States and Europe. He is bestknown in the public art realm as the creator of the 28 Blocks mural in Washington, DC. In addition to his Public Art, Baker has exhibited in numerous galleries and received many awards, including the Grand Prize at Plein Air Easton and the Irvine Museum Award. He has also been invited to The American Masters Exhibition in NYC several times. His work has been featured in various publications, including The Washington Post, NY Times, Chronogram Magazine, American Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Plein Air Magazine.
